Gerrod Winston
President

As President of NOMA PGH, I am responsible for leading the organization, advocating its mission, spearheading fundraising initiatives and maintaining visibility in the community.
I’m dedicated to working in disadvantaged and under-served communities. I believe that my community involvement and volunteer efforts support my personal commitment to promote revitalization and up-liftment through thoughtful advocacy, organizational and individual civic leadership, and cultural enrichment.

Something About Me

As a senior architect and project manager with Desmone Architects, I’m responsible for design, technical coordination, construction administration and developing and maintaining client relationships.  I’ve worked within the profession with 20 years of experience and hold an architectural license in the State of Pennsylvania.  When asked what I like most about being an architect, I particularly enjoy the innate progress of the design process… from virtual to tangible, seeing a project move from drawings and details ‘on paper’ to real life is especially fulfilling.

Active in several organizations, I maintain a strong interest in environmentally-conscious design, the well-being of the community, and mentoring younger people of color. Along with my position as president of the Pittsburgh Chapter of NOMA, I’ve been involved with Habitat for Humanity as a member of their Sustainable Building Committee, I’m a former board member of the Wilkinsburg Community Development Corporation, and I’m a long-time practitioner and teacher of martial arts.  I’m a native of Maryland, but have lived in Pittsburgh for almost 15 years, and I currently live in Wilkinsburg with my wife and two daughters.

My Goal

The goal is simple… to leave the people that I’ve interacted with better off after we’ve met and to leave the places that I’ve lived and worked in better than before I arrived.

“Bless the world with your mind, heal the world with your heart, lift the world with your soul; elevate the world with your life.”
